Welsh Championship Semi-Final Defeat for SUMHC

The 1st XI narrowly missed out on a place in the Euro Hockey League qualifiers going down 4-2 against National League West leaders Cardiff and Met Hockey Club. Cardiff started brightly going 1-0 up in the first 5 minutes after a powerful drag flick found the bottom corner. Swansea responded just after the break after some good work down the left by Sam Topping, the ball found its way to Liam Frost at the back post to tap home from 1 yard out. Cardiff came back quickly with another strong drag flick which left goalkeeper Callum Downing with no chance. However, Swansea were not finished yet, with 5 minutes to go, Ian Ewart scored a voluptuous drag flick into the top left corner and sent the travelling fans crazy. Swansea had exerted all their energy up to this point and could not hold out as Cardiff scored two very well worked goals, showing their national league class. A great experience for the boys showing how far they have come under new coach Graham Charlesworth.
