Stat-Man goes Down Under

The end is nigh. The curtain has come down on 6 of the 8 leagues for the men’s club. With only a rearranged game for the 2’s and the final relegation decider for the 1’s, let’s look back before tour and try to refresh our memories of what happened then.

Results

All of this happened quite a while ago but here we go.

The first team kept their slim chances of the survival alive with a big 5-1 win over Cheltenham with goals from CC Pinky, Bean after a long spell out injured and the miniature maestro and Varsity Camp veteran Harry York with a hat-trick. Hoping to make it third time lucky when it comes to Varsity selection hey Yorkie. Notable talking points: Scoop apparently saved one off the line, I’ve heard he plays cricket, and Yorkie’s second was an ‘audacious lob’

The twos made hard work of their game against Cardiff & Met who only fielded 9 players. This could have been partly down to the fact that 8 of their 9 camped in their own D or it could be that Swansea’s defenders really fancied a go up front. The final score was 3-0 with goals from Zeyn, Gav and ginger Tom who celebrated by laughing at Kieran.

Two big wins for the threes this week, the first of which was against Swansea City 2’s. The Uni threes were keen to show they are the dominant Swansea team and thrashed City 4-0 with goals from George H, Cyrus, Tyler and Pearson. In their second game of the week, the threes played their rearranged game vs Pembroke county late on the Wednesday night. After the hour and a half away trip, the 3’s put on a dominant display and came away 5-0 winners. Scorers were Elvis, Kieran and Greg Cole x 3, yes you read that right Greg Cole.

Unfortunately, the 4’s finished their first BUCS season with a 4-1 defeat to Bath Spa, with their only goal came from Sam J. MoM went to first time goal keeper and vice-captain Chilli with TW predictably to skipper Chris Pearson well and truly earning his hashtag being the only person to make it to double figures of TW’s.

Commonwealth News

As everyone should be aware the Commonwealth games started on 4th April, and our very own Jacob Draper was in action for Wales. After a great performance where they held the much higher ranked Pakistan to a 1-1 draw, before narrow losses to Malaysia (3-0), India (4-3) and England (3-2). They rallied in the final game, the 9th and 10th place play-off to beat South Africa 3-2, an amazing achievement! Now all eyes turn to The Welsh Varsity in 2 weeks’ time.

Leagues (As they Stand)

3.1Wednesday

1s were unlucky to miss out on promotion from their BUCS league, but that will make them even more determined next year.

The 2's won Western 3B at the third time of asking, whilst the 3's secured a comfortable spot in their first time in the division

The 4's enjoyed a good first ever BUCS year to record 2 wins and some very promising performances.

Saturday

After going through a major re-structuring at the start of the season, the 1's were unfortunate to take up the final relegation spot from the Championship, however are looking to bounce straight back up next year with a much more stable team.

The 2's produced a dominant display to rectify last seasons mistakes and gain promotion as champions to De Cymru and the Marches 1 next year.

The 3's have set themselves up for a promotion push next year with a solid 4th place finish in De Cymru 1

The 4's, in another new league, were unfortunate to miss out on double promotion, 3rd place isn't a bad effort though.

Attack Vs Defence

With only the Cup games and a game each for the twos and ones, it looks like this one may be sewn up.

Team Analysis

With only 1 week to go, can we get all teams goal difference positive. The twos skew it a bit but I can tell you it hasn’t yet happened.

Goal Difference Tracker

100 exactly. That’s definitely an achievement. Can we keep it over the last few games?

You may have noticed there are no player tables in this one. Good spot, I’ve decided to take a leaf out of ITV’s book and have a go at building suspense.

Good luck in the last few games look out for the cup final/varsity edition.

Much love OVK
