SUMHC Eye BUCS Cup Success

As we head into the latter part of the BUCS hockey season, we also enter the business end of the Cup Competitions. This time around, we find two of our teams in the quarter finals of their respective competitions, our 2nd team and our 4th team.

The 2nd XI, led by Matt Cocks, have had an excellent season in the top half of the Western 2B BUCS league. This follows a successful promotion campaign last season. So far in the cup this season, they have taken on Plymouth 2nd team and UWE 1st team. They won both these games convincingly, with a 5-0 score line at home to Plymouth and a 4-1 score line away against UWE. Next up, the 2s take on USW 1s in a much anticipated away day. USW play in the division below the 2s, so they’ll be up for the game to try and cause an upset! If Cocksy’s men make it through to the Semi-Final stage, they’ll take on either Exeter 4s or Bath 3s.

Going into the 2nd half of the BUCS season, the 4th team find themselves at the mid-table point of their league. Captain, Qiellor Haxhiraj, has had the difficult task of integrating many freshers into the team and trying to get the best results they can. They take on Royal Agricultural University 1s in the next round of their Cup Competition. In getting to the quarter final stage, the 4s beat UWE 3rd team 4-0. If the 4s progress to the Semi-Finals, they’ll take on either Plymouth Marjons 1st team or Bristol 5th team.
