Rain Does Not Dampen Summer League Spirits

The second round of Swansea Summer League fixtures got underway at Sketty Lane on Monday and despite atrocious weather conditions good fun was had by all. Once again the boys teamed up with the women's club to put out three mixed ability teams with substitutes, a truly incredible feat given the weather conditions and the fact that many still have exams to revise for.

Some great hockey was on display, not least Ehi Otoide's diving deflected goal which harked back to Michael Venn's similar effort in the Welsh Varsity Match this year. A household battle between Harry York and his better half Aimee Pink saw the latter emerge victorious and therefore she holds the bragging rights going into the final week.

As with the first round of fixtures, SUMHC were able to cover the cost of pitch fees and therefore players donated money in lieu of pitch fees to charity, more details of which shall be announced in due course.

The club would like to thank Swansea City Hockey Club for putting out a strong team and also battling the typical Swansea weather. In addition many thanks must be passed on to Harry York and Aimee Pink for organising the 40+ Swansea University Hockey players into some sort of order. Finally thank you to all those who sacrificed a game to umpire, although they were rewarded for their efforts with a bottle of wine to make it all worthwhile.

The final round of Swansea Summer League fixtures are on the 12th June, and anybody wishing to take part who have not previously expressed an interest are encouraged to contact Aimee Pink or Harry York over Facebook, or @SwanseaUniHC on Twitter.
