The Last Hurrah

The dreaded yet inevitable final game in a Swansea University shirt for many SUMHC players occurred in the final round of Summer League fixtures. With exams mostly finished but many students having returned home early, the club was again able to contribute towards three mixed teams, a testament to the popularity of hockey at Swansea University which cemented the reputation of hockey being the largest sports club in the University.

Prior to the games against Swansea City and Gowerton, a Leavers XI versus Current select XI took place at Sketty Lane. Pete Harvey was amongst the goals as he was able to break through the strong partnership formed at the back of the current XI defence between Jacob Draper and Bec Powell. However with an extra game of hockey in their legs, by the time the Summer League fixtures there were some tired Swansea University legs on the pitch. Nevertheless the games were played in good spirits and were a fitting finale to an excellent season of hockey for SUMHC.

The club would again like the thank Swansea Hockey power couple Aimee Pink and Harry York for organising the games as we look forward to taking the Summer League from strength to strength as intramural hockey teams are added into the club next year. Also we would like to thank Swansea City and Gowerton who were able to provide strong opposition to our teams throughout the weeks of fixtures, as we hope to build on the success of the Summer League in the future.
