Statman Begins!

Stat-Man is the new weekly round-up of the club's results, with an in-depth analysis of each teams and individual performance. Who said students have too much time on their hands!

A week of firsts for the club, the first official BUCS game for the 4’s, the first own goal of the year and the first 2s versus 3s game of the year! Any suggestions as to a new name for the column will be appreciated.

Results

In interest of balance this week we will be starting at the performance drinking end of the club with the 4th team. On Saturday the newly promoted 4’s kicked off their season with a hard fought 4-3 win against Bridgend B with goals coming from Elvis, Tyler, Dom Brown and the Captain himself Mr Chris Pearson. Expectations from that league are mixed but the three points could prove crucial for them at the sharp end of the season. On Wednesday the 4’s played the 3’s arch nemesis team from last year Cardiff Met 3’s learning that unis are a bit better than local Welsh sides and went down 4-0 so maybe defending is in order at this week’s training.

The threes continued their lack of goals on Saturday and played out a 0-0 bore draw against C*****f Uni on the world’s worst pitch (Talybont) where the main highlight was Jamie Broughton getting confused thinking he was playing rugby and as such receiving a green and yellow card.

On Wednesday the 2’s and 3’s played out the first of their two matches this year and Zeyn looked like he might have a stress induced aneurysm when the 3’s went 1-0 up through a near post goal from Greg but the 2’s came back strong and with some better finishing would have ended up more goals to the good. The final result was 3-1 to the 2’s with their goals coming through 1 debatable own goal awarded to James, an undeniable own goal from Rob and a good overhead finish from Conor.

The twos Saturday game saw them play Aberystwyth, they grew into the game after taking some time getting used to a very slippery pitch and ran away with it late in the second half, with the final score being 7-3 with a brace of goals from Brogan, Helicon, and James as well as a single from Conor.

The 1’s on Saturday also scored 7 but only conceded 1 and routed City of Bath the goals coming from Bean x 2, Dan Sam x 2, Denman, Woody, and Elliot. On Wednesday the ones kept their first clean sheet and came away from Bath (Uni this time) with another win the score was 2-0 with goals from Yorkie and Bean.
